Today:

  • is my last day at HRC
  • I will be officially recognized as a Person of Indian Origin by attaining an identification card authorized by the government of India which says so — at its best, this is just silly. At its worst, I’m pretty sure it’s fascism.

I have been in touch with supervisor and boss in India and am all set to begin on Tuesday 10 July. My reconnaissance team, aka my uncle with whom I will be staying, has only good things to report back. The office is located in South Delhi, which I think means good shopping near by.

Here’s what I know so far about my project:

It is a new media reform (?) initiative. It is a collaboration between OneWorld South Asia and several other organizations, including international press organizations. I will be arriving at its launch, so as of now it is only a concept. Part of my duties will be resource development for it’s actualization.

The People’s Independent Media Network

This was sent to me after I accepted the internship to give me a background and better idea of the project. Since then, I have been focusing on learning more about independent media, especially in the developing world, as well as the scope of the free media in India in particular.
